Indian Stock Markets NSE BSE open for exceptional – but regular session – In the late evening of 19th Jan 2024, it has been decided and communicated by exchanges that a regular trading session will be conducted for stock markets NSE, BSE on Saturday 20th Jan 2024. Earlier, there was a communication about special live trading sessions in 2 slots on 20th Jan 2024 which stands cancelled now after this decision and postponed to a later date that is yet to be announced. The special live trading session was planned to conduct sessions on disaster recovery (DR) site rather than Primary Site (PR).

Since initially, it was planned to be a short trading session on Saturday, we may expect lower participation from Foreign Institutional Investors and Mutual Funds. It was only in late evening in India, it was decided and communicated that full day trading session will be conducted on Saturday 20 Jan 2024 and Monday 22 Jan 2024 will be a holiday. Tracking the strong buying in US Markets on Friday, retail and HNI (High net worth individuals) have good chance to buy in Saturday session the quality stocks at best prices. Further, today, major banks such as Kotak Mahindra and ICICI Bank will be holding Board meetings on Saturday to declare their results for the Q3 2023 that may set the tone for Bank Nifty.

Regular trading sessions announced for Indian Stock Markets NSE, BSE on Saturday 20 Jan 2024. Special Live trading from Disaster Recovery Site on 20th Jan 2024 gets postponed to a later date (to be announced).

In view of changes to make Saturday 20th Jan 2024 for having regular trading session replacing special live trading sessions for Markets, the stock markets in India will remain shut on Jan 22, 2024 i.e. Monday.

As per the Circular released by BSE, “In partial modification, exchange shall conduct regular trading session as per the regular trading timings on Saturday January 20, 2024, from its primary site (PR) in Equity, SLB and Equity derivatives segment. There will be no intraday switchover from PR Site to DR (disaster recovery) Site.

After a good recovery sessions of 19th Jan 2024, BSE closed at 71,683.23 after posting a gain of 0.7% i.e. 496.37 points. NSE also closed at 21622 level on 19th Jan 2024 trading session after rising by 160 points i.e. 0.75%

Govt. of Maharashtra declared a Public Holiday in Maharashtra on 22-Jan-2024 under Section 25 of Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. This was followed by Reserve Bank of India Circular dated 19th Jan 2024 to change the trading hours for the various markets regulated by the Reserve Bank of India in view of the half day closing on January 22, 2024 (Monday) announced by the Government of India.

It is important to note that there is a big festival like event happening in Ayodhya, UP, India named as Ram Mandir ceremony. A 300-feet lamp, the world’s largest, using 1.25 quintals (125 kg) of cotton and 21000 litres of oil, will be lit in Ayodha head of Ram Mandir ceremony.
