Trump declined the offer for Presumptive Nominee from Republic National Committee
US Presidential Election 2024: Trump declined the RNC proposal for the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee well in advance before a formal proposal could have been had been rolled out next week. A resolution was presented to the Republican National Committee on Thursday to declare Donald Trump the party’s presumptive presidential nominee.
David Bossie circulated a draft resolution to fellow RNC committee members that could have been voted on next week at the group’s winter meeting in Las Vegas. As per the reports, Bossie withdrew the resolution shortly after going ahead with the proposal.
Trump’s tweet – Thank you to RNC
Trump appreciated the RNC proposal but humbly mentioned that instead he would like to see PARTY UNITY and that he should do it the ‘Old Fashioned’ Way i.e. AT THE BALLOT BOX. He thanked to the supporters in RNC for showing respect and devotion towards him.
Nikki Haley is under pressure
Pressure is increasing on Nikki Haley, to drop out after 2 nomination elections in IOWA and New Hampshire. These small and early contests though contains a very less number of delegates, but they’re being considered as important events for the candidates who want to gain momentum in 2024 Presidential elections.
Haley’s donors are also reportedly backing out whereas Haley’s campaign said on Thursday that it raised an additional $1.2 million for election.
She said, “Who cares what the RNC says? We’ll let millions of Republican voters across the country decide who should be our party’s nominee, not a bunch of Washington insiders”.
She mentioned on X: Donald Trump tried to use the RNC to deny millions of voters their say in the primary. Sounds like something a Washington insider would do.
McDaniel RNC Chair sees Trump as eventual Nominee
McDaniel had earlier said that while she felt the former ambassador Nikki Haley had “run a great campaign,” Republicans “need to unite around our eventual nominee, which is going to be Donald Trump.”
49 delegates from total of 1215 are assigned so far
A GOP candidate needs a majority of available delegates to vote for them at the Republican National Convention in July which is 1,215 in this election. In May 2016, Trump was declared as Presumptive Nominee for Presidential Race by then-RNC Chair Reince Priebus, before winning the 1,215 requisite delegates.
Out of 50 delegates from 2 elections held in Jan 2024, so far, Trump has support from 32 and Haley has got the support from 17, while one is pending to be assigned from New Hampshire election.
Trump facing trial in New York City Court
Trump is facing trail in New York City Court for sexual assault and defamation allegations by writer E. Jean Carroll. Notably, J. Carroll, is seeking millions of dollars from Trump. Today, both of them were at the court in New York for closing arguments.
Judge Lewis Kaplan told the nine-member jury in Manhattan federal court that they were to keep those facts in mind as deliberated on Carroll’s request for millions of dollars in damages from Trump for his defamatory statements.
Reportedly, Trump walked out abruptly from the court to which Judge Lewis Kaplan said, “The record will reflect that Mr. Trump just rose and walked out of the courtroom.” However, Trump returned about an hour later after Carroll’s attorney finished her summation, and just before his attorney began her closing argument. Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba has no voice and is threatened by the Judge with jail time for raising objections in the court.
Carrol’s charges against Donald Trump
Carroll had raised charges against Donald Trump that he had raped her in a dressing room at Bergdorf Goodman department store on Fifth Avenue, just up the street from the Trump Tower, where he lived and worked in the mid-1990s. Trump denied her allegation at the time.
Last year she won a $5 million judgment against him at the first trial. Trump is appealing that verdict.
