RIP Ahmir and Dylan-Who fired, for What reason?
Trending-Viral – 17-years old Dylan Butler openly-fired at Iowa High School (small-town) on first day of school after winter break on 04th Jan 2024. Apparently, he got killed himself in a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but reason for the shooting is yet not discovered.
As per the reports, The shooting happened before school had started and not many students were on campus, but a breakfast program was taking place.
Butler through his online account named ‘took2much’ in Discord, shared to his friends that he was “f—king nervous” and “gearing up” moments, he was at the school and ready “for what’s to come”, little before shooting. His family described him as ‘the kindest person ever’, as per the reports and fellow students, he was grappling with relentless bullying in the school.
Where did this shooting incident occurred?
At Iowa High Scholl in Perry that is about 40 miles northwest of Des Moines. Perry Community Schools has roughly 1,800 students, around 575 of them in high school.
What does Butler parents said?
As per the CNN-KCCI reports, Parents Jack and Erin Butler said “We have been trying to make sense out of the senseless. We are simply devastated and our grief for the deceased, his family, the wounded and their families is immeasurable”.
They also said “When we dropped off our son for school on January 4th, we had no inkling he intended the horrible violence he was about to inflict,” as per the statement provided by the office of their attorney, Mark Powell.
Parents said “On the way to school Dylan had been discussing with us of future plans and it felt like he was ready to get back to school after Christmas vacation and the start of a new semester. Dylan’s sister, our daughter, was in the school at the time of the shooting. We simply do not understand how this could happen and why Dylan chose to do what he did.”
“We cannot repay the grace we have been shown in public and private. We are helping authorities and will continue to help to provide answers to the question of why our son committed this senseless crime. Through God’s grace we hope the answers can be found and that those answers will prevent other young people from harming others.”
Who got killed and wounded in the incident?
The sixth-grader 11-years old Ahmir Jolliff died while four other students and School Principal Dan Marburger wounded in this incident. The injured were admitted to the nearby hospitals. Ahmir was known as ‘Smiley’ around his house.

Update: While this story was published before, we are sorry to put an update – Principal could not survive and has died from the injuries sustained he got during the shooting incident of Perry High School. School, children and society has lost a gold-hearted principal. At approximately 8 am, January 14, Principal Dan Marburger lost his battle with his gunshot injuries. This shocking news came 10 days after Perry High School shooter, Dylan Butler, opened fire on staff and students, killing self and a fellow student. Investigations until now are confirming bullying can be prime reason for the incident.
Principal Dan Marburger did a great job
Claire Marburger, daughter of Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger posted on social media about his father –
“As I heard of a gunman, I instantly had a feeling my Dad would be a victim as he would put himself in harms way for the benefit of the kids and his staff,” she wrote. “It is absolutely zero surprise to hear he tried to approach and talk Dylan down and distract him long enough for some students to get out of the cafeteria.” He got wounded and underwent a surgery after he tried to save students by talking to and distracting the shooter during the deadly attack.
As per the reports, within a few hours Tuesday, Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger’s friends, family, students and others quickly raised $15,000 to help the longtime local administrator recover after being wounded in the Jan. 4 shootings at the school. He has been serving as Principal since 1995.
Notably, In Iowa, gun buyers are required to either present permits or undergo background checks. The minimum age to purchase a handgun is 21, and the minimum age to purchase a rifle or a shotgun is 18. Now after this shooting incident, demands are being raised to make stricter gun laws.
Trump said on Iowa’s deadly school shooting: It’s horrible but we have to get over it and move forward. This statement from Trump is getting criticized in various social sites forum.
Gov. Kim Reynolds called the shooting a “senseless tragedy” that has shaken Perry and the entire state, and she said her prayers were with the community.
School Closing and Re-opening
School remained shut as directed by the Authorities after this deadly shooting incident but announced on Wednesday 10th Jan 2024:
Elementary students will go back to class on Thursday, Jan. 18, and
Middle school students will return from Friday, Jan. 19. The school will hold open house events before the return to class and will offer counseling services for families.
