US Presidential Election 2024- New Hampshire’s GOP Primary- Special Tuesday – 23rd Jan 2024

US Presidential Election 2024 – The major focus will be Presidential’s primary election on tomorrow in New Hampshire, but the other four special elections for the New Hampshire House of Representatives will also take place on the same day.

Notably, the House is a closely divided chamber with 198 Republicans, 195 Democrats, and 3 independents.

Following special elections are going to be held tomorrow in addition to the Presidential nomination.

  • Coos County District 1 – Democrat Cathleen Fountain (Dalton) to face Republican Sean Durkin (Northumberland)
  • Coos County District 6 – Democrat Edith Tucker (Randolph) to face Republican Michael Murphy (Gorham)
  • Strafford County District 11 – Democratic primary between Erik Johnson and Jeffrey Salloway (Both from Lee). The finalist winner will be facing Republican Joseph Bazo, of Madbury, on March 12.
  • Rockingham County District 21 – Here Democrat Jacqueline Cali-Pitts will be facing Democrat Jennifer Mandelbaum (Both from Portsmouth). This is a primary election with no declared Republicans.

With respect to US Presidential contest, just 2 days back, Ron DeSantis has already withdraw his nomination from the Republican side on Sunday. Earlier, Vivek Ramaswamy had withdrawn his nomination upon coming on 4th position in IOWA presidential nomination contest. It is important to note that both Ron DeSantis and Vivek are endorsing Donald Trump for the election.

Besides, Asa Hutchinson has also announced her withdrawal from the Presidential Nominees race on 16th Jan 2024.

Voters tend to trust Trump over Haley across a broad range of issues in a poll conducted by the Monmouth University-Washington Post through telephone and online from January 16 to 20, 2024 with 712 potential Republican presidential primary voters in New Hampshire. Poll details can be seen in below shared link:

Monmouth University-Washington Post Poll : Poll results shows great advantage to Donald Trump (54%) as compared to other candidates like Haley (34%) and DeSantis(8%). After DeSantis exited from the election, his supporters are expected to support Donald Trump.

Similarly, Donald Trump seen leading against other candidates in another poll conducted by ‘The Suffolk University Political Research Center’ that has been covering Presidential Primaries and General Elections in New Hampshire for over a decade. The field was conducted January 20-21, 2024, and is based on live telephone interviews. 

The state came 2 notch up in the ‘Overall’ Best State Ranking from 4 (in 2021) to 6 (latest). Interestingly, the rankings are based on critical metrics in 8 different categories such as:

Economy,

Infrastructure,

Fiscal Stability,

Education,

Crime and Corrections,

Healthcare,

Natural Environment and

Opportunity.

Notably, New Hampshire is at Rank# 1 (out of 50) in best state ranking from USNEWS.COM when it comes to Crime & Corrections and also in the category of Opportunity. This state is ranked at # 4 in the ‘Economy’ category. The state stands at worst rank (# 41) on Fiscal stability (reflecting both Long term and Short term fiscal stability). In the Healthcare category, NH is at 17 rank.

Long term fiscal stability is critical for the State to secure a stable economic future, incorporating a state’s credit rating and its ability to cover pension obligations. Short-term fiscal stability is an assessment of how well a state meets its immediate financial obligations through a balanced budget and State’s access to enough capital to cover its short term liabilities.
